How did Rutgers’ Olympic sports do ahead of Big Ten Tournament play?

For the majority of Rutgers fall athletics, this past week represented an end to the regular season. For the seniors, that means one last run as they look to end their careers on a high note. The past few days were full of highlights and memorable finishes as each team prepared for the next step of their season.

Men’s soccer finished the regular season with a loss, and women’s soccer lost in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals. However, field hockey was a bright spot with a dominated Sunday afternoon against James Madison.

It was a tough week for Rutgers football as they traveled to Minnesota and could not get the offense going. However, they still have four games left this season and the chance to finish above .500.

Men's Soccer

 

 

Record: 8-4-5

In their final game of the regular season, Rutgers men’s soccer lost to UCLA 1-0 in a game that was a defensive battle. The only goal belonged to Riley Ferch who scored at the 24:18 mark. The Scarlet Knights will now turn their focus to the Big Ten tournament which starts on Friday with a matchup against Wisconsin.

Women's Soccer

 

Record: 13-4-2

For women’s soccer, their Big Ten tournament run unexpectedly came to a quick end. On Sunday, they faced Northwestern and got off to a promising start. Riley Tiernan started the scoring. However, that was the only offense RU got. Northwestern then took control with two unanswered goals. They will have a shot at redemption in the NCAA tournament, which starts on November 11.

Football

 

 

Record: 4-4

After conquering their Big Ten demons two weeks ago, Rutgers was overmatched against Minnesota. They only had 134 yards off total offense and turned the ball over three times. As the Scarlet Knights were shutout 31-0, they had no answer for the Golden Gophers’ rushing attack, which had 253 yards. Senior running back Mohamed Ibrahim found the endzone three times. Rutgers will look to get back on track this Saturday but face a tough opponent in Michigan.

Field Hockey

 

 

 

Record: 8-9

For the Scarlet Knights, the seniors ended their regular season on a high note. Sophia Howard made four saves, and Ru got scoring throughout the lineup. Amanda Beck, Puck Winter, and Lucy Bannatyne each had a goal. On Thursday, they will turn their focus to the Big Ten tournament as they head to Columbus to face Northwestern.

Volleyball

Record:7-17

For Rutgers volleyball, it was a forgettable weekend. Against Indiana and Illinois, they only won two sets. However, they still have eight games left on their schedule to turn things around. This weekend they will be looking to get back in the win column against Iowa and Penn State.
