WASHINGTON — The lockout already had forced the addition of a pair of doubleheaders to the Diamondbacks schedule this season, but a third was added when Monday’s game at Nationals Parks was postponed due to rain in the forecast.

The Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals will play a split doubleheader on Tuesday. The first game will begin at 10:05 a.m. (Arizona time) with the second scheduled for 4:05 p.m.

This marks just the second rainout for the Diamondbacks since 2015. They were rained out in Atlanta on April 24, 2021, setting the stage for a dominant pitching performance the next day, when right-hander Zac Gallen (one hit in seven innings) and left-hander Madison Bumgarner (seven no-hit innings) combined to shut down the Atlanta Braves.

Bumgarner again will be in the middle of things on Tuesday, with one notable change: Doubleheaders are back to being nine-inning games this season. Bumgarner will start the first game with left-hander Tyler Gilbert expected to be recalled to start Game 2.

When the Diamondbacks-Braves game was rained out last year, it snapped a streak of 866 consecutive games played without the Diamondbacks enduring a weather postponement, the longest streak in the majors since 1990.

The Diamondbacks have two doubleheaders already scheduled, both of which will be played at Dodger Stadium. Those games, which will be played May 17 and Sept. 20, will take the place of those that were lost from the first week of the season due to the labor dispute.
