Devon Achane by the numbers: Former Texas A&M RB has huge day in Dolphins blowout of Broncos

The Miami Dolphins had a truly wild day on Sunday, routing the Broncos 70-20 behind a nearly perfect day from, frankly, multiple players.

One of those players was former Texas A&M running back Devon Achane, who eclipsed 200 rushing yards in just the third game of his NFL career. A third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the former Aggie was sparkling against the Broncos, scoring four touchdowns and racking up more than 230 yards from scrimmage.

Although Achane didn't get the hype of wunderkind former Texas star Bijan Robinson among running backs in this year's draft, he was recognized as a strong mid-round pick when the Dolphins picked him. Even so, these kinds of early returns would have been difficult to fathom.

While 200-yard rushing days and four touchdowns a game may not be the norm for Achane — when the offense is clicking the way the Dolphins were Sunday it tends to inflate everyone's stats — his heavy usage and apparent reliability are sure to make him a popular target in Miami.

Achane may be in the early stages of his career, but Sunday's performance is going to be hard to top. Here's a rundown of how he played vs. the Broncos:

Devon Achane stats vs. Broncos

Achane had a monstrous day against Denver.

The 5-9, 187-pound running back had 233 yards of total offense, with 203 coming on the ground. He had four total touchdowns, two on the ground and two in the passing game.

Perhaps even more impressive was his ridiculous 11.3 yards per carry, along with an absurd 104 rush yards over expected (per NFL Next Gen Stats).

Achane and fellow running back Raheem Mostert tied the Dolphins single-game record with four touchdowns apiece, (ust to further contextualize how truly wild Sunday was for both of them).

Devon Achane highlights vs. Broncos

Achane had no shortage of highlight reel plays against Denver. Per NFL NGS, he had 148 yards on carries wide left of the line of scrimmage, and it shows on some of his biggest runs of the day.

Achane had a 67-yard touchdown run to get his fourth score of the day and push the Dolphins to the 70-point summit. His third touchdown was a nifty shovel pass reception from Tua Tagovailoa. His second was a no-look shovel from Tagovailoa, whereas his first was a good old-fashioned pitch play.

When was Devon Achane taken in 2023 NFL Draft?

Achane was the sixth running back picked this year, going No. 84 overall in the third round to the Dolphins. Robinson, Alabama's Jahmyr Gibbs, UCLA's Zach Charbonnet, TCU's Kendre Miller and Tulane's Tyjae Spears were picked ahead of him.

Seen as a slasher, Achane has more delivered on his early returns. Between his game and Mostert's, Mike McDaniel has a good problem on his hands at the running back position.

Devon Achane named AFC Player of the Week

Achane was named the AFC Player of the Week for his efforts in Week 3 against the Broncos.
