WHO'S ON THE BLOCK: MLB trade deadline: Detroit Tigers have obvious candidates, but who else could be moved?

Game notes: After wrapping up a seven-game homestand, the Detroit Tigers will make the trip down to South Florida to take on the Marlins.

It will be the last trip to Miami for Miguel Cabrera, who started his career with the Marlins and won the 2003 World Series with the franchise. MLB teams throughout the league have been honoring Miggy as he has made his final trips to their stadiums with gifts and other mementos, and whatever the Marlins decide to give the future Hall of Famer will surely be one of his favorites. In his final season, Cabrera has not been an everyday player, but barring an injury, Cabrera will surely get some opportunities in South Florida.

For the first game of the series, the Tigers will have young righty Reese Olson on the mound, who will be looking to rebound from a rough outing against the San Diego Padres.

Olson, who has been better than the stats show, will make his eighth start and eleventh appearance on the mound. In seven appearances this year, he has allowed two runs or less. The other three appearances have been brutal, however. He allowed seven runs against the Atlanta Braves, four against the Kansas City Royals, and five in his most recent outing against the San Diego Padres. There's no doubt Olson has some nasty stuff. The next step is reigning it in and developing consistency, but as he gets more big-league experience, that should certainly improve.

Meanwhile, the Tigers will face a young pitcher with a similar profile to Olson. Braxton Garrett has flashed some brilliance: he had a 2.22 ERA and picked up three wins in June. In July, however, he has given up at least six hits and three runs in each outing en route to a 7.85 ERA for the month. The good news for the Tigers: This game will fall in July. They may like their chances.
