Flaherty hasn't pitched since June 4 because of a back issue that caused him to exit his last start after five innings but just 60 pitches. You certainly wouldn't have been able to tell based on how badly Flaherty was fooling Texas Rangers batters that day – giving up just two hits and no runs – but the free-agent addition was battling a back injury and after five innings, the team decided it was enough.

Flaherty managed to avoid the injured list but has since gotten an injection in his back to help him deal with the back issue. He effectively missed one start, but the way he's been pitching this year, the Tigers will be glad he's as back as soon as he is.

After Saturday's game, the two squads will finish off their series on Father's Day before the Tigers head to Atlanta to start a new road series with the Braves.
