Game notes: Matthew Boyd is still looking to find his groove in the 2023 season.

The 32-year-old left-hander has a 6.21 ERA and a 3-3 record in eight outings. Boyd got a win in his last appearance against the Washington Nationals, which was a nice recovery from his May 12 performance against his former team, the Seattle Mariners — that day, Boyd didn't make it out of the second inning and allowed six runs.

Boyd has allowed at least two earned runs in every outing this year and has only completed six innings one time, although he's been close multiple times.

Meanwhile, the Tigers will be facing a pitcher you've probably heard of before.

Zack Greinke, the six-time All-Star and 2009 AL Cy Young Award winner is still kicking it at 39 with the team who drafted him way back in the day. This is Greinke's second season back with the Royals after traveling all over the league, including stops with the Houston Astros, Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Greinke is not what he was back in the day, but he's better than his 1-5 record shows. The Royals are one of the worst teams in baseball, and his record has taken a hit because of it. Since allowing seven runs in a game against the Minnesota Twins back on April 27, Greinke has seven earned runs allowed over his past four games, covering 21⅓ innings.
