Game notes: It's the first games after the All-Star break for the two teams; Detroit comes out of the break in fourth place in the American League Central, a game in front of the Kansas City Royals. Oakland is last in the AL West, with an AL-worst 62 losses. Only the Washington Nationals of the NL have been defeated more.
The Tigers will likely see A's ace Frankie Montas in one of the games. The talented right-hander left his last start vs. the Seattle Mariners after just one inning. Eventual Home Run Derby runner-up Julio Rodriguez took Montas deep and he got three outs before being set down.
