Game notes: The Bruins are making the front office’s call to replace coach Bruce Cassidy, who led Boston to a fourth-place finish in the Atlantic last season and a first-round playoff exit, with former Dallas Stars coach Jim Montgomery look pretty good, with wins in six of their first seven and an average of 4.14 goals a game (third in the league).

The names atop the scoring chart for the Bruins are pretty familiar, with David Pastrnak already to 12 points (5G, 7A) in seven games after scoring 40 goals last season. We're not saying the Bruins are a bit aged, but they're eagerly anticipating Thursday's return of 34-year-old Brad Marchand, who missed the first seven games after having DOUBLE HIP SURGERY over the offseason. Pastrnak is followed by 36-year-old David Krecji (who has eight points), 37-year-old Patrice Bergeron (seven points), and 31-year-old Taylor Hall (six points). Are they hanging out at Dunkin’ or the Fountain of Youth over there in Hahr-vahd Yah-d? Hall, the 2017-18 MVP has looked particularly sprightly this season, with three game-winning goals — a total equal to all of his 2021-22 game-winners, in 81 contests.

MORE WINGS:After so many disadvantaged seasons, power play a positive for Detroit Red Wings

The Wings’ top scorers, meanwhile, are making Stevie Y.’s checkbook — or maybe his Venmo or Ca$h app, who knows how these kids get paid these days — look pretty good, with Blackhawks refugee Dominik Kubalik leading the Wings with 10 points (4G, 6A) and 34-year-old David Perron putting up four goals to tie for the team lead (with Kubalik and captain Dylan Larkin).

It should be newcomer Ville Husso’s turn in net again (Yzerman picked him up in a trade, then opened the Venmo for a three-year deal) after co-starter Alex Nedeljkovic gave up all six goals in the Wings’ four-goal loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. Husso is also playing pretty well, stopping 93.9% of the shots he has faced in three starts with a cool 2.00 GAA.

After Thursday’s game, the Wings return home for a Saturday-night matchup with the Minnesota Wild at Little Caesars Arena; the Wild will be in Game 4 of a five-game road trip, which bodes well for the Wings. The Bruins, meanwhile, head out on the road themselves after their game with the Wings, opening a four-game trip in Columbus on Friday night.
