Despite injury, Texas’ Jonathon Brooks still No. 1 RB for 2024 NFL draft
Prior to suffering an ACL injury in November, Texas running back Jonathon Brooks was on the path to taking home the Doak Walker Award for the 2023 season.
Although he missed the final handful of games, Brooks showcased enough last season to be considered the No. 1 running back prospect for the 2024 NFL draft according to many respected analysts.
Brooks rushed for 1,139 yards on 187 carries and 10 touchdowns, averaging 6.1 yards per carry in his lone season as the starter. ESPN’s Matt Miller forecasted Brooks’ success back in July of 2023 prior to the start of the season.
Miller noted on Wednesday that Brooks is his No. 1 running back in this draft class and is an “underrated receiver out of the backfield.”

Many recent NFL mock drafts project Brooks to be taken off the board between rounds two and four.
