So much for Dylan Edwards' Kansas State football career.

Edwards, Derby High School's all-state senior running back and a prized summer pickup for the Wildcats, announced via social media Friday night that he is reopening his recruitment.

"At this moment, I'd like to thank the whole Kansas State staff and fan base for this amazing opportunity to become a Wildcat," Edwards wrote. "After recent thoughts and talks with my family, I'd like to decommit and take a step back and reopen my recruitment.

"Kansas State will always have a special place in my heart. But you get this opportunity one time, and with God's grace I'll pick what is fully best for me."

Perhaps not coincidentally, Edwards decided to part ways with K-State after receiving a scholarship offer from Notre Dame and then making an unofficial visit to South Bend, Indiana, on Thursday.

The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Edwards, a four-star prospect according to 247Sports, announced his commitment to K-State in a ceremony at his high school on June 23. At the time, his decision came down to the Wildcats, Oklahoma and Nebraska.

As a junior at Derby, Edwards rushed for 2,603 yards and 38 touchdowns and caught eight passes for 101 yards in helping the Panthers to a Class 6A state runner-up finish. He was one of the most sought-after recruits in what has been an in-state bumper crop for the Wildcats in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Edwards' commitment was followed two weeks later by his good friend Avery Johnson, a four-star quarterback from Maize High School. Before his decommitment, K-State had pledges from six of the top dozen Kansas prospects.

Shortly after Edwards committed, the Wildcats landed running back Joe Jackson from Davenport, Florida. They also are pursuing Wichita Heights' John Randle, the No. 2-ranked prospect in the state, according to Rivals.
