Denver Broncos schedule: Odds, injury news, and how to watch Week 2 game vs. Washington Commanders

An interconference matchup is on tap for Week 2 this Sunday as the 1-0 Washington Commanders travel to Mile High to take on the 0-1 Denver Broncos. These teams have not played against one another since Halloween night 2021, with the Broncos emerging victorious with a 17-10 win.

The Washington Commanders are fresh off a home win, 20-16, over the Arizona Cardinals. Washington's defense shined in that game, keeping Arizona's offense out of the endzone all 60 minutes. In fact, the only Arizona touchdown came on a fumble recovery by defensive end Cameron Thomas.

The Washington defense held Cardinals' quarterback Joshua Dobbs to just 132 passing yards on 30 attempts. They also recorded three sacks. Their run defense was just as strong, as Arizona was limited to only 96 yards on the ground, with Cardinals' halfback James Conner recording only 62 yards on 14 carries (4.4 yards per carry).

Russell Wilson and the Broncos are looking for their first win of the 2023 season.

The Denver Broncos, meanwhile, weren't as lucky, falling to their division rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders, at home, 17-16. New head coach Sean Payton is still looking for his first win in the AFC, after becoming one of the most accomplished coaches in the NFL during his 15 years in New Orleans. In their opener, the Broncos' pass attack struggled as quarterback Russell Wilson could only muster 177 yards on 34 attempts. Only 74 of those yards went to Wilson's receivers.

While the Broncos won the turnover battle and held Raiders' running back, and the NFL's rushing leader from a year ago, Josh Jacobs to just 48 yards (2.5 yards per attempt), their offense just wasn't potent enough to overcome a missed field goal and PAT from kicker Wil Lutz.

Notable fantasy football players and injury news

The Denver Broncos were bitten hard by the injury bug in Week 1 as both starting safety Caden Sterns and starting tight end Greg Dulcich were forced to exit the game early.

While Sterns suffered a season-ending knee injury, there was some hope that Dulcich (hamstring) could suit up for Sunday's tilt. However, the standout sophomore did not participate in team practices on Wednesday or Thursday. There are also growing concerns that Dulcich could wind up missing "multiple weeks."

The only other Bronco to not participate in Thursday's practice was linebacker Frank Clark. Star receiver Jerry Jeudy (hamstring) was a full participant during Thursday's practice. His status for Sunday's contest is still up in the air.

Commanders' defensive end Chase Young (neck) was a limited participant at practice on Wednesday, but was upgraded to full on Thursday. Receiver Curtis Samuel (hip) has been a limited participant both days, and safety Jartavius Martin has not participated in any of the team's practices after being placed in concussion protocol on Monday.
