McCaleb won the shot put in a record 5.96 meters, outdistancing his own mark set last year when he won the 2023 title. He won the discus with a throw of 14.05 meters at Eastern Illinois University.

McCaleb was one of two competitors in each event. Freshman Luke Soukup of Mascoutah also competed against him. They meet again later in the wheelchair 100-meter race.
