DeAndre Hopkins trade talks ramping up; contract will need to be altered

A deal could be coming for Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Following the trade of receiver Brandin Cooks from the Houston Texans to the Dallas Cowboys, trade talks with teams interested in Hopkins are “ramping up,” according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The teams involved are not known, although it would make sense for a team expecting to compete in 2023 to acquire the star receiver.

If/When a trade happens, there is the expectation of redoing his contract. Hopkins is due more than $19 million in salary this season and more than $14.9 million in 2024.

Hopkins has said he would be willing to restructure his contract to accommodate a team. Paying him a bonus up front could easily lower his cap hit for a new team.

At this point, a deal could happen at any time between now and the draft.
