Dean Curley becomes first Tennessee baseball freshman to have three-homer game

Dean Curley broke open Tennessee baseball's game against Kansas State on Tuesday with a third-inning grand slam.

The Vols freshman was only getting started. Curley became the first freshman in Tennessee history to have a three-homer game. He hit a three-run homer in the fourth and a two-run homer in the sixth against Kansas State (7-4) at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

No. 8 Tennessee (12-1) beat the Wildcats 15-5 behind Curley's three-homer, nine-RBIs game.

Curley has hit six homers among his first eight career hits. He also has a triple and a single. The freshman from California made his eighth start Tuesday. He missed the start of the season with a hamstring injury and missed a game after being hit in the head by a pitch against Albany on Feb. 25.

Evan Russell had a pair of three-homer games in the 2021 season against LSU and Vanderbilt. He is the only player in Tennessee history with two three-homer games. Alan Cockrell, Rusty Ensor, Todd Helton and Cody Hawn as the other players in UT history with three-homer games.

Billy Amick hit Tennessee's second homer Tuesday leading off the third inning. The Vols loaded the bases with. a Kavares Tears single, Cannon Peebles walk and Dylan Dreiling single.

Curley cleared them with a grand slam to left field.

Curley again homered to left after a Robin Villeneuve single and another Peebles walk for a three-run homer. He homered to center in the sixth to score Bradke Lohry.
