At Daytona, the band plays on; these guys brought a bar and stage to the infield

A lot of infield campers at Daytona bring along a lot of the comforts of home.

These guys brought along a nightclub. Of sorts.

A dozen folks from two hours south in St. Lucie, including the four-piece alt-rock band MeltDown, have filled their three reserved RV spots with a covered bar, stage, and even a couple of portable hot tubs.

"We've been doing this for about five years," said band member Duane Scherz, who works in the wine-and-spirits business by day. "We had a big crowd last night. If it rains, we'll have to wrap the electronics but maybe we'll do an acustic set under the tent."

Other band members include Erik Hagedorn, John Drew and Peter Imig. They lean heavily toward '90s alternative rock from bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Matchbox 20.

The group has also set up shop at Talladega and Homestead along the NASCAR trail.
