What day is the Indy 500? What happens at Indianapolis Motor Speedway before the race begins

The 2024 Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 26. Scott McLaughlin won the pole position and will lead the 33-car field to the green flag.

Jordin Sparks, Tamika Catchings and Ken Griffey Jr. are scheduled to be part of pre-race fun, and don't forget about the Indy 500 traditions.

Here's what will happen on the track.

6 a.m. ET: Public gates open

7 a.m.: Snake Pit gates open

8:15 a.m.: Snake Pit concert begins

9 a.m.: DJ Slater Hogan begins on Pagoda 3

9-9:20 a.m.: Cars to pit road

8:45-10:10 a.m.: Borg-Warner Trophy march to the bricks from the IMS Museum

10:26 a.m.: Purdue band plays "On the Banks of the Wabash"

10:37 a.m.: Green flag lap rolls out

10:40 a.m.: Indy 500 winners lap

10:44 a.m.: Honorary starter receives green flag from IUH patient, trackside stage

10:54 a.m.: Historic cars lap

10:55 a.m.: All cars on grid

11:25 a.m.: Military appreciation lap

11:47 a.m.: Driver introductions

12:10 p.m.: U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team begins descent

12:11 p.m.: "America the Beautiful" by Indiana National Guard ceremonies unit

12:17 p.m.: Invocation by Archbishop Charles Thompson

12:19 p.m.: Taps

12:21 p.m.: "God Bless America," sung by Philip Phillips

12:24 p.m.: National anthem, sung by Jordin Sparks

12:26 p.m.: Flyover by Air Force Thunderbirds
