David Pastrnak of Boston Bruins mourns loss of newborn son

Boston Bruins right wing David Pastrnak is mourning the loss of his newborn son.

The NHL star wrote in an Instagram post Monday that Viggo Rohl Pastrnak died last Wednesday, six days after his birth.

“We have an Angel watching over us and we call him SON,” wrote Pastrnak.

“You will be loved FOREVER,” he continued. “Please respect our privacy as we are going through these heartbreaking times.”

The post included a black-and-white photo showing Viggo’s hand and foot.

Pastrnak, 25, was a first-round draft pick by the Bruins in 2014 and has played seven seasons with Boston, recording 200 goals and 227 assists.

He and girlfriend Rebecca Rohlsson announced in January that they had a baby boy on the way, according to the Boston Globe.

Following Pastrnak’s announcement Monday, the Bruins said they are “heartbroken.”

“David and Rebecca are a part of our family and we share in their loss,” the Bruins said in a statement. “Please keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy during this very difficult time.”

The NHL Players’ Association also shared a statement Monday.

“The players and staff of the NHLPA extend their deepest condolences to David Pastrnak and Rebecca Rohlsson on the loss of their newborn son, Viggo,” reads a tweet from the organization.
