David Archuleta Had A Brilliant Response To The Haters Who Walked Out Of His Show For Mentioning He's Queer
It takes a special type of hate to have anything negative to say about David Archuleta when he takes adorable photos like this:
Or a photo wearing the cutest tracksuit that looks like Christmas morning pajamas.
Unfortunately, David had to respond to some negativity after his management received a complaint from one of his shows in his The More the Merrier holiday tour in Utah.
According to the email, the fan gushed about "an incredible experience" but felt the night was ultimately ruined because of David's LGBTQ+ discussion.
The disgruntled "fan" (who probably paid full price to see openly queer David's show) said people "did not pay for David to take 15 minutes and ruin [the] Christmas experience" by talking about his queer identity.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
The 31-year-old singer was, of course, a radiant ball of positive energy in the face of the claims. He responded in a Dec. 1 Instagram post: “This tour hasn’t been the easiest for me to do. A way for me to find peace with it is by being open about my journey."
“I am sharing something that I’ve felt I had to keep hidden nearly all my life. Because you believe your existence is unacceptable. That mindset is not healthy. So I am choosing to not hide that anymore," he continued.
"If I offend others for simply saying it’s ok to be who you are and like someone even if it’s the same sex, and people walk out of a show because they are uncomfortable that I am sharing my story of self acceptance," he said. "The person singing those songs on stage was no different from the person at the end of the show.”
The American Idol alum has been very transparent with his personal journey with his sexuality in recent years. “2 years ago, I was thinking ending my life was better than admitting this openly. If you are more offended that I say I like guys than you are that someone has felt it was better to end their life for that very same reason."
David recently shared he almost got married three different times before coming out as queer last year.
David told all of his fans, "I want you to think about why that makes you uncomfortable. I want to have uncomfortable conversations. That’s how you gain understanding.”
“If a few dozen people walk out, but there are others staying who need to know they’re not alone in this journey. It’s worth it to me. I felt I was alone. I was scared. I thought I didn’t deserve anything good because I was queer. I hope you can see why I open up about it. It’s healing. And helps me not be ashamed of who I am like I was for many years."
And lastly, he said, “Thank you to the other hundreds who stayed last night to listen. I know it’s not a topic usually talked about and it may be uncomfortable for some. Even if it’s a journey that you may not fully understand, It means the world to me that you still were willing to listen.”
David recently doubled down on Twitter to politely respond to another fan who questioned his mention of his sexuality during the performance.

It's disappointing that he even has to defend sharing HIS truth at HIS show, but it's 2022, and people are still tripping here in America aka the "Sweet Land of Liberty."
I’ve always shared personal parts of my life and journey. It’s just the person I am & my fans know that over the last 8-9 years they’ve come to a show. I feel connected to others doing it. It’s not always a comfortable place. But I hope it helps people know they’re not alone. ❤️
