Davante Adams tells former Raiders teammate Josh Jacobs to be great for the Green Bay Packers but losing him stings

Davante Adams left Green Bay two years ago for the Las Vegas Raiders so he could play with his former college teammate and friend, Derek Carr. That reunion didn't even last a year.

Adams has now lost another key player on the Raiders offense: running back Josh Jacobs, who signed last week with the Packers.

Like with Carr, this departure is tough on Adams, but the All-Pro wide receiver is also giving the Packers his stamp of approval.

"Been playing this game a long time and this (expletive emoji) has gotten easier to deal with over time but this one sting bad," Adams wrote in an Instagram story on Friday. "Go be gr8 my boy."

"Packers yall came up," Adams added.

What the Green Bay Packers are getting in Josh Jacobs: stats, injury

Adams has had an up-close look at Jacobs the last two seasons.

The 26-year-old former first-round pick out of Alabama led the NFL in rushing with 1,653 yards on 340 carries (second most in the league) during the 2022 season. He was also among the NFL’s leaders with seven runs of 20 yards or more. His 12 touchdowns were tied for fifth.

Jacobs’ numbers were down in 2023 (805 yards, 233 carries, six touchdowns), but he missed the team’s last four games with a quad injury. Before last season he had only missed a combined six games in his first four seasons.

For his five-year career, Jacobs has 5,545 rushing yards for a 4.2 average and 46 touchdowns. He has only fumbled once in each of the last two seasons.

Jacobs made the Pro Bowl in 2020 and 2022.

Davante Adams has continued to put up big numbers with Raiders

Adams will be in his third season with the Raiders in 2024 after starring for eight years in Green Bay.

While the Raiders haven't made the playoffs in Adams' first two seasons, the wide receiver has produced at a high level.

Adams added a third all-pro honor to his lengthy list of accolades in his first season with the Raiders in 2021 after posting 1,516 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.

Despite upheaval at the quarterback position as well as a mid-season coaching change in 2023, Adams' individual production didn't suffer too much. His 103 receptions were 10th most in the NFL and for the fourth straight year he had over 1,000 receiving yards.

He also played in all 17 games for a second straight year.

Trade rumors swirled around Adams early in the offseason — not unexpected given his veteran status on a team in transition — but general manager Tom Telesco shut those down last month at the NFL scouting combine.

Davante Adams will be on Netflix's 'Receiver' show

Packers fans who want to see more of Adams as he navigates the upcoming season in Las Vegas will get that chance on Netflix's new "Receiver" show.

In addition to Adams, the show will feature the life on and off the field of fellow NFL wide receivers Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings, Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers, Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions and tight end George Kittle of the 49ers.

NFL Films, Omaha Productions and 2PM Productions, which created the "Quarterback" series on Netflix, will produce "Receiver."

Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning is an executive producer of the show.

"Receiver" will premiere this summer on the streaming platform.
