Darius Slay on DeVonta Smith: ‘I think he’ll win a lot of 1-on-1 matchups’

The Eagles traded up to draft DeVonta Smith at No. 10 overall despite some concerns about his size and weight. Players from the SEC and across the NFL have spoken out in defense of Smith’s talent and Darius Slay was the latest to praise the Heisman Trophy winner.

During a Twitch stream of Call of Duty Warzone, Slay had this to say about Smith.

“What’s my take on Smith’s size? I ain’t worried. Worked with him the other day a little bit, talking to him about a little ball. He’s heading in the right direction. He knows what he’s talking about, he knows how to win 1-on-1 matchups, and that’s what we need from our receiving corps right now.”

I think he’ll win a lot of 1-on-1 matchups. I’m not going to be shocked about it. Y’all might be shocked about it.”

On draft night, Slay welcomed Smith to the Eagles and let it be known that they’d be going one on one against each other from the onset.
