Daniel Boone's Tucker Hogan highlights BCIAA Individual Wrestling Tournament

Jan. 13—Daniel Boone's Tucker Hogan earned a county gold for the third straight season Saturday at the 2024 BCIAA Individual Wrestling Tournament held at the Geigle.

"Felt pretty good," Hogan said on winning the 189-pound title. "I try to come into all these tournaments with the same mentality. (Which is) put a lot of points on the board and wrestle my best."

The senior won with an 18-2 technical fall over Kevin Oswalt of Exeter.

With momentum from yet another BCIAA title, he'll look to continue to dominate at districts and states.

"Get the job done," Hogan said on his game plan going into the match. "I believe that the training I put in has been pretty consistent throughout the past years that I've been here."

At 285, Twin Valley's Ean Winchester defeated Berks Catholic's Brody Kline by a 4-2 decision in overtime for his second straight 285-title in what was the last match of the day.

Down 2-1 late in the third period, Winchester, a senior, was able to get a point to push the match to overtime.

"I was ready for it," Winchester said on having to go to OT. "I felt good and my conditioning felt good."

Just two years ago in 2022, Kline defeated Winchester by a 3-2 decision for gold at 215.

This year the George Mason University commit got his payback.

"Just go out hard," Winchester said on his game plan. "Do all I can the whole match."

Additional boys winners included: Tulpehocken's Abramm Schaffer at 107 pounds, Hamburg's Chase Homan at 114 pounds, Berks Catholic's Brayden Hartranft at 121 pounds, Daniel Boone's Dean Houser at 127 pounds, Wilson's James Garcia at 133 pounds, Wyomissing's Marvin Armistead at 139 pounds, Schuylkill Valley's Ian Vitalo at 145 pounds, Exeter's Ashton Warchol at 152 pounds, Wilson's Matteo Garcia at 160 pounds, Wilson's Blaise Eidle at 172 pounds and Wilson's Ryan McMillian at 215 pounds.

Furthermore, as this is the first season girls wrestling is officially recognized as a PIAA sport, the BCIAA held girls wrestling championships for the first time.

"It felt pretty good," Hamburg's Shannon Govern said on being the BCIAA's first 130-pound girls winner. "I wrestled on the guys' team for two years and I was at the counties last year. I just feel really good because last year I didn't place on the guys' team and this year I won my bracket."

Govern defeated Exeter's Molly Lubenow by pin.

"Just work on my shots," Govern said on what her game plan was. "Get good takedowns and be smart about it. Pay attention to my position"

At 155, Brandywine Heights' Jaidyn Roush also won by pin as she defeated Exeter's Hailey Piersol after being tied at four points apiece.

"I feel pretty good about it," Roush said. "I was a little worried in my last match but it turned out to be okay. It's a huge accomplishment. I'm really happy I placed first."

Additional girls winners included: Wilson's Hayley Cilento at 118 pounds, Gov. Mifflin's Emily Yerger at 124 pounds, Schuylkill Valley's Kayley Weidner at 136 pounds, Brandywine Height's Seinna Miller at 142 pounds, Reading High's Lorianny Garcia at 148 pounds and Schuylkill Valley's Mackenzie Bachman at 170 pounds.

Wilson led the day with four gold medalists, two silver and one bronze. Berks Catholic had one gold medalist, four silver and two bronze. Exeter rounded out the top three teams with one gold medalist, two silver, and two bronze.
