Dana White says UFC will give Nick Diaz another shot: ‘Nick wants to fight’

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Fight fans apparently haven’t seen the last of Nick Diaz in the UFC.

According to UFC president Dana White, Diaz (26-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC) will get another fight with the promotion. The timeline and opponent were not revealed, but White said the two would be meeting following UFC 261, which Diaz was in attendance for.

“Nick wants to fight,” White said. “… Sure, (we’ll give him one). … We’ll see how this goes. He’s waiting for me in the back right now. I’m going to go talk to him.”

In recent years, White said he’d entertain giving Diaz another fight, but only if Diaz was serious – something White has questioned time and time again. However, Diaz appears to have convinced White he’s in the right frame of mind.

Through social media over the past year, Diaz posted numerous videos and images of his training regimen and physical transformation. Hours before the fight Saturday, Diaz cryptically tweeted, “A gentleman never tells,” with three images of him walking in Jacksonville.

Diaz, 37, hasn’t fought since January 2015, when he competed against Anderson Silva in the UFC 183 main event. Diaz originally lost a unanimous decision, but the decision was overturned when Silva tested positive for drostanolone and androsterone. Diaz tested positive for marijuana, the two fighters were suspended by the NAC, and the decision was changed to a no contest.

The no contest followed back-to-back losses for Diaz, which came against Georges St-Pierre and Carlos Condit. Diaz’s most recent MMA victory came at UFC 137 in October 2011.

UFC 261 took place Saturday at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. The main card streamed on ESPN+ pay-per-view after prelims on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPN+.
