Dallas School Board approves multiple appointments for coming school year

Aug. 14—DALLAS TWP. — With the first day of school 10 days away, the Dallas School Board agenda Monday was heavy on personnel appointments. One of those was taken off the agenda before the voting began when Superintendent Thomas Duffy said the person who was to be hired as an in-school suspension monitor, Taylor Davies, had called to rescind his application for the job. The motion was tabled.

The board appointed Adam StClair as buildings and grounds substitute, Kaylie Rollman as clerical substitute at $10.50 per hour, Leah Hickman as an aid at $12.03 per hour, and Angela Milikin as custodian.

Hannah Bonomo was approved as Business, Computer, and Information Technology teacher at $66,256, Sara Kneal as guidance counselor at $65,256, and Megan Ostrum as special education teacher at $65,256.

Gary Masters got job of July-December weightlifting coach at $1,693, while the board named as game managers and game personnel at $35 per event Ruth Skammer, Matt Samuel, Chris Porasky, Joanne Major, Holly Baker, John Zug, David Baker and Tom Major. Skammer, Porasky and Samuel were also made fitness center supervisors at $10 per day, along with Heidi Wagner and Bonnie Manello.

Ten high school coaches were approved: Mark Belenski as head boys basketball at $8,598, Greg Bat as assistant-in-charge for ninth-grade boys basketball at $4,494, Vincent Bucciarelli as head girls basketball at $8,598, Phil Schoener as assistant girls basketball for $4,690, Sandy McKay as assistant-in-charge ninth-grade girls basketball at $4,494, Mike Richards as head wrestling at $8,598, Jerry Ogurkis as assistant wrestling at $4,690, Ed Radzinski for winter track at $1,303, Romayne Mosier as head swim at $5,543, and Grant Luksic for assistant swim at $3,215.

Six middle school coaches were approved: Anthony Chiarucci for eighth-grade assistant boys basketball at $3,713, Brandon Campbell for seventh-grade assistant boys basketball at $1,303, Jessica DeSanto for eighth-grade assistant girls basketball at $3,713, Rhiannon Shingler for seventh-grade girls basketball at $1,303, Brian Hilburt for assistant-in-charge wrestling at $4,494, and Scott Carter as assistant wrestling at $3,712.

The meeting opened with a presentation on safety updates by Director of Operations Jacob Sholtis who noted, among other things, that some door handles were relocated at the suggestion of State Police to prevent them from being chained together by an intruder, and that new cameras and software will make it easier to search for people with specific distinguishing characteristics, such as wearing a blue shirt when entering the school.

The board also:

—Accepted the resignation of Christine Koerwer as accounting/reporting coordinator.

—Approved an agreement with Security Voice, Inc. as provider of One Call Now at a cost of $1.55 per student from July this year through June 2024. The system is used for mass notifications. Total cost is $4,011.

—Approved an agreement with Lifetouch to provide school pictures for the district for 2023-26

—Set meal prices for 2023-24 at $1.40 for elementary and middle school breakfasts, $1.50 for high school breakfast, $2.55 for elementary lunch, $2.65 for middle school lunch, $2.80 for high school lunch, 30 cents for reduced price breakfast and 40 cents for reduced lunch. Duffy noted that under a new state program all students are eligible for a free breakfast, and those who qualify for a reduced lunch due to family income will now be eligible for a free lunch.

—Approved the purchase and installation of a conveyor-type dishwasher, electric booster heater and thee-pan dishwasher rack at a total cost of $31,521. The purchase is made through the state Co-Stars program which allows districts to piggy back on prices already arranged through the state.
