Dakota Wesleyan volleyball defeats Mount Marty

Oct. 15—MITCHELL — Dakota Wesleyan volleyball swept rival Mount Marty on Saturday evening at the Christen Family Athletic Center in a Great Plains Athletic Conference contest. Set scores were 25-17, 25-18, and 25-21.

Only up 15-13 in the first set, DWU was able to capitalize on eight total errors by Mount Marty, closing out the first set on a 10-4 run. Ady Dwight picked up two key blocks in the first set, the second of which was the one that won the Tigers the first set. In the second set, DWU built an eight-point lead early on thanks to kills from both Dwight and Abby Brunsing, which held despite a Lancers' rally. Lizzie Tyler recorded two of the final three points in the third set on kills to clinch the match in straight sets for the Tigers.

On the attack for DWU, Ady Dwight led the Tigers with 17 kills, while Lizzie Tyler recorded 14 kills and a team-high 17 digs. Kayleigh Hybertson also recorded 35 assists. Defensively, Tya Wiedeman matched Tyler's 17 dig-game for the evening. Carlee Laubach also posted a 10-dig game.

For Mount Marty (10-16, 3-9 GPAC), Julia Weber and Adisyn Indahl led the Lancers' attack with 10 kills and 9 kills, respectively. Ally Whitmire recorded 28 assists and 8 digs, while Ivy Mines led the Lancers with 11 digs for the match.

DWU (17-11, 6-5 GPAC) are back in action with a GPAC matchup on the road against Morningside on Wednesday, Oct. 18 in Sioux City, Iowa.
