D7 Football Playoff Pairing: Union City to travel to North Muskegon for Saturday kickoff

UNION CITY — The Union City Chargers learned their postseason football fate Sunday night, as the MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) announced via their Selection Sunday show that the Chargers will take the long trip to Muskegon to take on the North Muskegon Norseman in the first round of the Division 7 District football playoffs.

Union City (6-3), the only Branch County team to make the 2023 postseason, will make the more than two-hour trip on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff to face the unbeaten Norseman, who enter the postseason at 9-0. North Muskegon enters the postseason ranked number one in Division 7 according to the week 8 AP polls, just ahead of Jackson Lumen Christi.

Union City is heading into the playoffs on a two-game skid, dropping a week 7 matchup to the Division 8 number one ranked team from Ottawa Lake Whiteford followed by a week 9 loss to Buchanan. North Muskegon enters the postseason on a nine-game winning streak, with their latest win coming Friday in a 52-14 decision over Shelby.
