COLDWATER, MI. - The picturesque grounds of the Coldwater Golf Course played host to 18 teams from around the region on Wednesday for the MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) Division Two Regional 9 Golf Tournament.

Coldwater finished in seventeenth place as a team on Wednesday, shooting a total team score of 405.

The team from Vicksburg won the regional crown with a new high school team record for the Coldwater Golf Course, firing an amazing score of 299.  Mason followed in second place with a score of 316 while Gull Lake finished in third place with a 319. Those three teams all punched their respective tickets to the MHSAA Division Two State Finals based on their team finish.

Coldwater was led individually by junior Talan Eberts, who finished sixty-first with a score of 94. Also adding to the Cardinal effort was Blaike Kelley with a 101, good enough for seventy-eighth place; Rayce Johnson with a 102, placing him in seventy-ninth place; and the duo of Parkyr Jones and Steven Covell who both fired off a 108, good enough for eighty-third place.

Vicksburg boasted the top three individual scores on a truly dominant day, as senior Josiah McClelland took home regional championship honors with a score of 72. Not far behind was teammate Luke Malocha in second place with a 73, followed by teammate Rilley Briggs in third place with an 80.

The three individuals qualifying for the state finals are the top three golfers not associated with one of the teams that qualified for the team state finals. Qualifiers based on their individual qualifying score were Joey Morio of Harper Creek, JJ Miller of Northwest, and Jacob Marohn from Stevensville Lakeshore, all of whom fired a 78 to advance on to the state finals.

Those qualifying for the Division Two State Finals will take the week to prepare before heading to the Fortress in Frankenmuth on June 9 and 10 for the MHSAA Division Two State Finals.
