Cross country: Third-place finishes lead Section 4 runners at New York state meet

Ithaca freshman Tsadia Bercuvitz and Lansing sophomore Trent Thibault each finished third Saturday to lead Section 4 runners at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association cross country championships at Vernon Verona Sherill High School.

Bercuvitz posted a time of 18 minutes, 30.8 seconds in the girls Class A race on the 5,000-meter course. Saratoga Springs' Emily Bush won in 17:34.3, followed by William Floyd's Zariel Macchia in 17:44.3.

Thibault competed in boys Class C and finished in 16:34.3. James Tette of Penn Yan won in 16:13.5, with East Aurora's Owen Rung second in 16:26.6.

Among the eight Section 4 championship teams, Delhi/South Kortright's girls led the way with a runner-up showing in Class D. South Lewis had a winning score of 53, with Delhi/SK just behind at 57.
