CROSS COUNTRY ROUNDUP: Running fills weekend at busy LaVern Gibson course

Sep. 30—Hundreds and hundreds of cross country runners, ranging from middle-schoolers to college aged, invaded LaVern Gibson Championship Course over the weekend for multiple races in different categories.

The highlight of the weekend was the Nike XC Town Twilight high school races Saturday night. Carmel (boys) and Mount Prospect (girls) earned team titles in the Race of Champions competitions.

The highest-placing Wabash Valley runner in either of those races was Northview senior Ellia Hayes, who came in 55th in the girls race. Her time was 19 minutes, 10 seconds.

College

—Sycamores compete at night too — At LaVern Gibson Championship Course, freshmen Parker Mimbela and Brenna Sobecki paced Indiana State's contingent at the Nike XC Town Twilight on Friday night.

Sobecki was top finisher for the Trees in 13th, with her 6-kilometer time coming in at 23 minutes, 47.0 seconds. Robyn Schemel also secured a top-15 finish in the women's 6K with a time of 23:56.3.

Mimbela placed 19th in the men's 8K with a time of 26:22.0. Teammates Jackson Ward and Cannen Wolf both placed in the top 40 in the field with times of 26:59.7 and 27:15.1.

ISU did not record a team score in either race because the Sycamores only had four athletes in each of the two.

The majority of Indiana State's squad was slated to compete in the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic on Saturday morning at Louisville.
