How to get to CPKC Stadium: Parking, shuttles and more for Current games

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Current will make history this week when they open CPKC Stadium, the first stadium built specifically for a professional women’s team.

But with any new venue comes plenty of learning and adjustments.

Current fans will have to learn the ins and outs of parking, public transit, free shuttles and more to get to matches.

Here’s what to know if you’re going to a KC Current game in 2024:

Parking

The Current made headlines in February after releasing prices for season parking passes. Season ticket holders were shocked to find it was $50 plus fees for each match if they wanted to park at CPKC Stadium.

Since then, the club has released more details about parking at the stadium, as well as other free transit and off-site options.

At the stadium

On-site parking at CPKC is limited, which means all fans must have a prepaid parking pass. Single-game parking passes are now on sale here.

Fans can access their parking pass in the KC Current app or through the SeatGeek app. Make sure to have your parking pass ready to go on your phone when you arrive.

Parking lots will open approximately 3 hours before each game starts. For the home opener on March 16, parking lots will open 4 hours before the game. All vehicles must be out of the lots no later than 2 hours after the game.

There are four parking lots at CPKC Stadium, each with a specific color — blue, red, green and teal. Fans can find their designated parking area on their parking pass.

Because parking is limited, the Current is encouraging fans to carpool to games. Any fans who arrive with four or more people in one vehicle will receive a $10 CPKC credit.

The Current are even partnering with Way To Go to help fans connect with other people and find rides.

Downtown/River Market options

There’s no street parking available on Berkley Parkway for games at CPKC Stadium. Additionally, the parking lots next to Union Berkley Apartments, CORE Apartments and Bar K are not available.

But there are still thousands of parking spots in downtown Kansas City, including street parking, eight city-owned parking garages and surface lots.

There are seven surface lots in the River Market alone available for KC Current fans.

KC Streetcar

The Current is also encouraging fans to take advantage of the Kansas City Streetcar.

“The KC Streetcar will be boosting service levels on KC Current match days, connecting parking options throughout downtown,” Tom Gerend, executive director of the KC Streetcar Authority, said in a release.

“Streetcar service will be a great choice for those looking for park and ride options to CPKC Stadium.”

The KC streetcar route runs from Union Station to the River Market, allowing fans to grab a ride throughout the Crossroads or Downtown KC.

The 3rd and Grand stop is the closest to the stadium. From there, it’s about a 1-mile walk to CPKC Stadium.

The KC Streetcar Authority recently broke ground on its riverfront extension, which will continue the existing route another 0.7 miles to Berkley Riverfront. The new extension should be operational in late 2025 or early 2026.

Free shuttles

With parking limited, the Kansas City Current will offer a complimentary shuttle service from the River Market area to the riverfront stadium.

Fans can hop on a shuttle at two designated stops for the “final stretch.”

Those two shuttle stops are located at 2nd and Grand, one block from a KC Streetcar stop, and 7th and Main, right next to another KC Streetcar stop.

Walking

For fans walking from the River Market, the Current encourages fans to use the Town of Kansas Bridge at 2nd and Main streets to access the Riverfront Heritage Trail.

Pedestrians can’t walk down to Berkley Riverfront via the Grand Boulevard bridge or the railroad crossing at Lydia Avenue. They’ll be closed on game days.

No tailgating

If you plan to park at CPKC Stadium, be prepared: Tailgating is prohibited.

The Current’s parking policy says grills, cooking stations, fire pits, tents, tables, chairs, yard games, generators and amplified sound systems are not allowed.

Team leaders said fans must have a valid parking pass to get into the on-site parking lots on game days. Unauthorized vehicles will be towed.

Fans are only allowed to take one space per vehicle. Oversized vehicles might be required to puchase an additional parking pass, and trailers of any kind are prohibited.
