New at Coors Field: Merch, vegan food, murals and more

DENVER (KDVR) — The traditional purple stripe on Blake Street was painted on Thursday morning, and the Colorado Rockies are gearing up for the first home game of the season on Friday afternoon.

Rockies guide: Everything you need to know for the home opener

If you’re heading to the Rockies game to watch the team take on the Tampa Bay Rays, you might notice a few new updates at Coors Field.

Remodel

If you’re part of the Rockies Home Plate Club, you’ll see a completely remodeled Toyota Clubhouse. During the offseason, the Rockies remodeled the lobby, dining room, bar, restrooms and corridor.

While you’re heading to your seat at the VIP clubhouse, you will also see new hand painted murals documenting three decades’ worth of Rockies history.

Denver-based merch

If you see people sporting new tee shirts saying “Be A Good Person” with a Rockies logo, it’s because the Rockies partnered with the Denver-based clothing brand Be A Good Person to bring some new merch to the baseball fans.

But there’s more than just new tee shirts at the stadium.

New plant-based ballpark classics

Coors Field now has an extensive plant-based menu at the new establishment Better-Off Burgers. The establishment serves up ballpark classics like burgers, chips and shakes – just without the animal products. You can choose from the Original Burger, Chorizo Burger and Medi Burger, as well as vegan vanilla or strawberry tahini milkshakes.

Along with the new bites, Coors Field also created a quicker process for purchasing food.

Grab-and-go technology between innings

While Coors Field is a card-only facility, the stadium took it one step further with handprint technology.

A concessions stand called Epic Western Saloon, near section 150 of the concourse, is the second shop to feature Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology. Epic Western Saloon is designed like Coors Light Chill Zone, at the top of section 105, to reduce lines for food.

Here’s how it works:

To enter the store, you need to use your credit card or pre-enroll with the Amazon One payment option. For fans who pre-enroll online, the Amazon One payment option just needs you to hover your palm above the device to enter and pay.

Then, you can sort through the food and beverages, and the technology detects what is picked up or set down from the shelves. After you’ve made your decision, you can just walk out of the store and the technology will charge you for what you took.

Along with the new technology at Epic Western Saloon, there’s also a new self-checkout at Wazee Market.

If you’re craving the classics like John Dough Pizza Co., Tenders, Love, and Chicken, and Rockie Dogs, you can now use self-checkout to get back to the game quickly. The market also offers a selection of 30 domestic beers, craft beers, seltzers and other ready-to-drink beverages.

If you’re heading to Coors Field to check out the new renovations and watch the Rockies on Friday, you’re in luck. FOX31 Pinpoint Weather meteorologists said that the game might be the warmest Rockies home opening in history.

However, check the weather if you’re heading to the game on Saturday. It’s a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day due to high wind speeds.
