Contracts extended for UGA gymnastics coach Courtney Kupets Carter, golf coach Josh Brewer

Two Georgia head coaches coming off very different seasons will be working under new contracts.

Gymnastics coach Courtney Kupets Carter is under contract now for three more seasons and women’s golf coach Josh Brewer for four more, the Athens Banner-Herald has learned. Both had previous deals that expired after their seasons.

Brewer in his 10th season guided his team to the NCAA championship match play competition as one of the final eight teams in the nation. The team finished 18th the previous year after three seasons of not advancing out of regionals.

Brewer received a $40,000 boost in pay to raise his salary to $180,000, according to information obtained in an open records request. No contract details including buyout terms were included.

In case you missed it: Coaching changes at Georgia coming fast for Josh Brooks. Could more be on the horizon?

Kupets Carter, a former Olympic medalist who won nine individual NCAA titles at Georgia, will be paid $200,000 annually, the same salary she drew last season. She will be entering her sixth season as coach at Georgia.

Georgia gymnastics isn’t the powerhouse program it was when Kupets-Carter starred during an era when the program won 10 national championships, the last in 2009.

Georgia bowed out of the NCAA tournament after finishing fourth in the four-team Auburn regional behind Kentucky, Auburn and Southern Utah.

The Gym Dogs had a national ranking of 7th in 2018, 8th in 2019, 12th in 2020, 18th in 2021 and 30th in 2022. The team finished last this season in the SEC championships.

Kupets Carter this spring hired former Alabama assistant Ryan Roberts who is being paid a $150,000 salary. He replaced Josh Overton on staff.

Georgia added transfers Josie Agneny (Kentucky), Vanessa Deniz (Oklahoma) and Sandra Elsadek (Ball State) and is bringing in a recruiting class that was ranked No. 4 nationally by collegegymnews.com.

Georgia is listed as just outside the top 20 in a 2023 power rankings at NCAA.com.
