Conor McGregor throws hard kicks in recently shared video. Could UFC return be sooner than later?

It seems as though Conor McGregor might be one big step closer to a UFC comeback.

On Sunday, McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4) posted on Instagram a video of himself ripping left kicks over and over again on a hanging heavy bag.

McGregor, 33, has not competed since breaking his leg in July 2021 against rival Dustin Poirier. Throughout his recovery process, McGregor has intermittently appeared for interviews. In late May, McGregor said he anticipated a CT scan in the following days that would reveal if he was ready to kick or not.

“Once I can kick and grapple, I’ll be back in no time,” McGregor said. “Boxing training is going well, and strength training. That’s all. I’m excited to get back.”

McGregor also vowed his MMA story is just beginning. His main focus right now is the UFC, not boxing, he added.

It has not been determined who McGregor will return against once he’s ready, but UFC president Dana White recently indicated he likes the idea of a Michael Chandler matchup.

“I don’t know. I really like Chandler vs. Conor after Chandler’s last fight,” White said. “There’s plenty of fights to make, I don’t know if that’s the one, but we’ll see what the landscape looks like when Conor comes back.”
