Conner: 'I just did my job'

Oct. 9—OXFORD — Megan McCurdy hasn't been a lone voice crying in the wilderness.

As his administrative assistant McCurdy has the ear of Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin, but many Ole Miss fans have also called for more carries for running back Jarod "Snoop" Conner.

'We stopped them on 1 play in the second half': Ole Miss wins high-scoring thriller over Arkansas

The 5-foot-10, 220-pound junior from Hattiesburg is the "banger" among Ole Miss running backs.

Conner rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries, a huge presence in a Rebels' run game that racked up 324 yards against the Razorbacks.

Conner had averaged a fraction more than six carries a game and was the Rebels' fourth-leading rusher.

"My assistant Megan has a sign that's already up (that says) 'Snoop,' because she's been saying for two weeks we don't play him enough. When I walked in the sign was already up on my door. So she's happy," Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin told media after the game.

Conner with a head of steam can be a load to handle. He had a 1-yard touchdown run, but also big scoring plays of 51 and 34 yards.

All three came in the second half.

COLUMN: Nothing mediocre about Corral in exciting Ole Miss win

Arkansas began the day giving up 150 yards a game on the ground, but the Razorbacks controlled the line of scrimmage early, and Ole Miss averaged just 3.5 yards per carry in the first quarter.

Quarterback Matt Corral got involved with designed runs, and in the second half Conner and Henry Parrish found a better rhythm.

Parrish finished with a career-high 111 yards on 18 carries; Corral had 94 and two touchdowns on 15.

Notebook: Matt Corral doesn't do too much despite history with Razorbacks

While McCurdy and others are in Conner's corner, he's not campaigning for carries.

"I just went out there and did my role and tried to help the team as much as possible to win like we did. So I just did my job," he said.
