What compensation did Falcons receive in Calvin Ridley trade?

It didn’t appear as if the Falcons were going to make a move before Tuesday’s trade deadline, but that changed when the team sent suspended wide receiver Calvin Ridley to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for two draft picks.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Atlanta will receive a 2023 fifth-round pick and another conditional pick that could go from a fourth-rounder all the way to a second-rounder based upon the following conditions.

If the Panthers give Ridley a contract extension, the 2024 pick becomes a second-rounder. On the other hand, if Ridley doesn’t hit any incentives and fails to receive an extension, the Falcons receive a fourth-round pick.

Ridley, a former first-round pick out of Alabama, is suspended for the entire 2022 season due to breaking the NFL’s gambling policy last year.

When Julio Jones was traded prior to the 2021 season, many expected Ridley to make the jump from a good receiver to an elite one. Obviously, things didn’t work out that way, but perhaps Ridley will benefit from a fresh start in Jacksonville with Trevor Lawrence throwing him the ball.

During Ridley’s four seasons in Atlanta, he racked 248 catches for 3,342 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns.
