Port Clinton High School announces Senior Spotlight January

PORT CLINTON — Kennedy Adkins and Ethan Luma are the Port Clinton High School Senior Spotlights for January.

Adkins is a member of PCHS International Club, Freshmen Mentor and a two-year member of the PCHS Orchestra. She also serves as the historian of Leadership Council, and secretary of National Honor Society.

Adkins has represented PCHS as a three-sport athlete, all four years in volleyball, basketball and softball and was selected captain of all three teams.

Outside of school, she has been involved in club volleyball and has been involved in Girl Scouts since second grade. ext year, she will continue her education at Kent State University majoring in psychology with the goal of becoming either a school counselor or psychologist. She is the daughter of Pat and Paula Adkins.

Luma has been active in student life at PCHSl by being a member of the PCHS marching band and orchestra.

He was selected to be part of the PCHS Band Leadership Team representing the percussion section. Some of the other clubs and organizations he has been involved in include Leadership Council, Key Club, Academic Challenge, International Club, Future Teachers and Freshmen Mentor.

Luman was selected by his classmates as the class of 2022 treasurer all four years of high school. His future plans include majoring in education to become a teacher certified in math, history or a guidance counselor. He is the son of Natasha and the late James Luma.

Keke McNutt named November Rotary Student of the Month

FREMONT — Terra State Community College student Keke McNutt was named the college’s Fremont Rotary Student of the Month for November.

McNutt, from Temperance, Michigan, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bedford Senior High School in 2021. At Bedford, McNutt was awarded the Individual Academic All-State for the 2020 volleyball season and received the Southeastern Conference Sportsmanship Award her senior year.

Now at Terra State, she is taking classes toward an associate of science degree and is a member of the Terra State Titans volleyball team.

“I chose Terra State Community College because they offer a program that allows me to receive a strong start in my career path. I also chose the College because I wanted a school that would provide a positive environment, to not only learn in, but as an athlete, also live and compete in,” said McNutt.

McNutt contributed to the sixth-place finish the Titans had this year at the NJCAA National Championships.

Outside of class and volleyball, she is a member, volunteers and is a part of the young adults group at the BridgePoint church. She also helps coach volleyball programs and clinics for children.

Her nominator, Adjunct Professor of Economics Andre Duclos, credits McNutt for being an open-minded and generous student.

“Keke was a part of Titans Volleyball. She had to deal with the fame of being on the team and making it to the NJCAA championships. She often talked about her work at the church with young people. She was open-minded, dealt with the fame and when the season finally ended, she thanked her classmates, her team and her church for their support,” said Duclos.

After graduating from Terra State, McNutt plans on transferring to a four-year institution to earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Sshe wants to pursue a career as a pharmacist and work at a pharmacy within a hospital.

CMP offers GSMM Master Instructor, Range Officer Training Courses

PORT CLINTON — For those interested in learning more about how to train others in marksmanship or how to oversee competitive events, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) announced its lineup of Master Instructor and Range Officer training courses for 2022.

Advanced classes are available to experienced individuals looking to become certified in teaching marksmanship basics and match details as “Master Instructors” of CMP’s sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Modern/Vintage Military (GSMM) rifle or Rimfire Sporter rifle events. The registration fee of $135 for the class includes a notebook, thumb drive, sling, 10 clips, 20 dummy rounds and a CMP Rifle Scorebook.

2022 GSMM Master Instructor Training Workshops are:

  • Feb. 26 — CMP North, Camp Perry;

  • March 11 — Western Games, Phoenix, Arizona;

  • July 29 — National Matches, Camp Perry;

  • Nov. 15 —Talladega 600, Talladega, Alabama.
