The announcement took place at Duffy’s Sports Bar in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and there wasn’t much drama leading up to the decision. Kentucky was widely believed to be the frontrunner and Cats Illustrated had reported for quite some time the Wildcats were expected to be the choice.

Garner was bumped from three to four-stars on the Rivals.com network earlier this year before the start of the summer on the basis of a strong showing in 7-on-7 action, where his improved coverage skills made an impact on analysts such as Rob Cassidy, who blankets the state of Florida.

His other finalists were Louisville, Michigan, Alabama, Clemson and Tennessee.

Garner visited Kentucky twice this summer, first for a night camp that also allowed him the opportunity to visit for a couple of additional days, and subsequently for a follow-up trip through the Commonwealth that also took him to Louisville.

Garner is Kentucky’s second defensive back commitment from the Class of 2018, joining JUCO nickel/corner Domonique Williams.

Fellow Florida defensive back prospect Jamari Brown is expected to announce his college decision tomorrow, and Kentucky is a strong finalist for him as well.

Stay tuned to Cats Illustrated for much more on Garner’s decision.
