Colts vs. Texans team leaders, final injury report, storylines

The Indianapolis Colts visit the Houston Texans in NFL Week 2 action at 1 p.m. ET Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023 (Fox).

Both teams lost their openers. The host Colts led in the fourth quarter but were overtaken by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The visiting Texans never led against the Baltimore Ravens.

Both teams are breaking in rookie quarterbacks. The Colts' Anthony Richardson (Week 1 breakdown here) passed for 233 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception, and led Indianapolis with 40 rushing yards and a TD. The Texans' C.J. Stroud passed for 242 yards and rushed for 20, but Houston managed just three field goals.

Come back throughout the week as storylines develop for this matchup.

Rookie QB matchup: Richardson vs. Stroud? Colts rookie isn't playing that game

Self-assessment: Anthony Richardson says, 'Everything is not going to be perfect'

Both QBs provided great trivia you can use to stump your friends:

∎ At 21 years, 111 days old, Richardson became the youngest player in the Super Bowl era to pass for and run for a TD in the same game.

∎ Who caught Stroud's first NFL pass? He did. He snagged a batted pass on the second play from scrimmage and gained 1 yard.

There are some unwelcome similarities through Week 1:

∎ Richardson was sacked 4 times (3 by Josh Allen), Stroud 5.

∎ Both teams struggled mightily running the ball: The Colts got 25 rushing yards from their running backs; the Texans 53.

∎ Both struggled on 4th-down plays (Colts 1-of-5, Texans 1-of-4).

∎ Both defenses struggled in the red zone (the Jaguars scored on all 3 of their trips, and the Ravens on 3-of-5).

Other Colts top performers in Week 1: Michael Pittman Jr. had 8 catches for 97 yards and a TD; Zaire Franklin was in on 18 tackles and forced a fumble that DeForest Buckner returned for a TD.

Other Texans top performers in Week 1: Nico Collins (80 yards) and Robert Woods (57 yards) both had 6 catches; Denzel Perryman had 11 tackles; Ka'imi Fairbairn scored all 9 of Houston's points.

The Texans are 1.5-point favorites, according to DraftKings. The over/under is 39.5 total points. Money line: Colts +102, Texans +122. ESPN's matchup predictor gives Houston a 51.4% chance of winning. (There's also a 0.4% chance of a tie. Remember last year's opener?)
