Colts signing DT Ron’Dell Carter from Cowboys practice squad

The Indianapolis Colts are signing defensive tackle Ron’Dell carter from the Dallas Cowboys practice squad, head coach Frank Reich confirmed Wednesday to the media.

Carter was on the practice squad, which means once he clears COVID-19 testing, he will be on the Colts’ 53-man roster. Even with Sheldon Day coming back from his knee injury to practice this week, the Colts continue to make additions to the defensive line.

Carter attended James Madison where he had 66 tackles and 12 sacks in 2019. He worked as a defensive end but the Cowboys moved him to the three-technique. Having that versatility and upside is always intriguing to the Colts. The Cowboys had big plans for Carter and his development.

There will have to be a corresponding move made with the roster at capacity, which could come in the form of wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. going on the injured reserve list. But that is purely speculation.

It will be interesting to see what the Colts will do with their defensive line rotation with Carter in the mix, but it will certainly be something to keep an eye on.
