Are the Colts preparing to start Anthony Richardson Week 1?

Anthony Richardson’s physical talents are undeniable. He’s got a ton of power behind his arm and can run over the defenders he doesn’t juke when taking off with the ball. However, most agreed coming into the draft that he lacked the starting experience (13 starts with Florida) to get the ball in Week 1 for whichever organization drafted him.

Despite all of that, rumors are swirling that Richardson could indeed be the top quarterback on the Indianapolis Colts‘ depth chart in 122 days when the NFL season kicks off. ESPN NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler said exactly as much on a Saturday appearance on SportsCenter, according to Bleacher Report’s Mike Chiari.

“I’m told Indy has gotten to work with Anthony Richardson in a hurry, trying to get that install going because the pleasantries are over,” Fowler said. “… They’ve done their homework. Now they want to get him ready to play because a lot of teams I’ve talked to believe that he’ll be possibly the Week 1 starter.”

The Colts have a new coaching staff in place that is responsible for the development of Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia. Throwing Richardson into the fire may seem like a bad idea to some, but the experts think that the former Gator might give Indy the best chance to win.

Aside from Richardson, the Colts have veteran Gardner Minshew to rely on as a starting option.
