Colts’ Bernhard Raimann looking to build off best game yet
Indianapolis Colts rookie left tackle Bernhard Raimann is coming out of the bye week, and he also happens to be coming off the best game of his young career.
Despite facing a vaunted Dallas Cowboys pass rush, Raimann more than held his own. In fact, the rookie third-round pick excelled as a pass protector against the likes of Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence and Dorance Armstrong.
According to Pro Football Focus, Raimann allowed just one total pressure (a quarterback hit) on 42 pass-blocking snaps.
The fourth quarter for the Colts was a disaster in that game as they were outscored 33-0. But Raimann was a bright spot.
It’s vital for the Colts to see this kind of development over the final stretch of the regular season. They may be out of the playoff race, but the young players have to continue developing their games going into the offseason.
Raimann has had plenty of growing pains throughout his rookie campaign. It was expected considering his lack of overall experience at left tackle, but he’s been able to show enough promise to be encouraged about the future.
Having strong games against top-tier pass rushes like the Cowboys should only make fans feel more encouraged about Raimann’s development.
It will be an interesting offseason for the Colts, who need to find a new head coach and potentially a new general manager.
Raimann will have some tough challenges ahead over the final four weeks of the season but as long as he continues to show progress during this next month, he can bring that momentum into the offseason.
