Emerson, who wears No. 9, signed his professional contract on July 18. He was placed in the ACL with other Mariner rookies, including fellow first-round infielder Tai Peete, on Thursday.

Emerson was picked 22nd overall as the second high school shortstop selected in the first round. He was the first Ohio high school position player drafted in the first round since Cleveland native Derek Dietrich in 2007.

The Mariners host the Giants at 2 p.m. today in Peoria. ACL games can be followed at MILB.com.
