Colorado remained the lone one-loss team in the Pac-12 South after a hideous 20-10 win over UCLA on Thursday.

The two teams had a combined 11 personal fouls and Colorado won that battle too. The Buffaloes had seven, including five unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for various infractions. The other two came courtesy of a roughing the passer penalty and a first half targeting call.

One of the five conduct penalties was courtesy of a good acting job by UCLA linebacker Kenny Young. The Colorado Twitter account noticed Young’s acting.

The teams had 25 overall penalties; the final one came on a UCLA offside penalty that gave Colorado a first down as it was trying to run out the clock. The Bruins had 13 for 98 yards while Colorado had 12 for 128 yards.

The Buffaloes sealed the game with a 68-yard punt return for a touchdown by Isaiah Oliver. The return gave Colorado a 10-point lead that UCLA couldn’t cut into. The Bruins immediately responded by marching down the field. But two potential touchdowns were dropped and a field goal was missed. It was UCLA’s second missed field goal of the night.

In addition to the penalty craziness, Colorado was afflicted with turnovers in the first half. The Buffaloes turned it over four times, including twice on interceptions by quarterback Sefo Liufau. It was his first two interceptions of the year.

But despite the turnovers, penalties and the other ridiculousness that occurred at Folsom Field on Thursday, the Buffs moved to 5-1 in the Pac-12 with the win. Colorado now matched the school’s total for Pac-12 wins in the previous five years. From 2011-2015, Colorado was 5-40 in the Pac-12.
