College World Series final shows how close Irish are

For Notre Dame baseball fans it still stings to think back on as the Irish let game one get away despite a late, large lead against Mississippi State in the super regional, but the finals of the 2021 College World Series get started tonight in Omaha.

That same Mississippi State team who Notre Dame ultimately lost to in three games in super regionals, takes on Vanderbilt in a best-of-three series to determine college baseball’s national champion.

Some thought the ACC was incredibly down because some of the traditional powerhouse programs didn’t have their best years, but Virginia and North Carolina State both making it to Omaha and the Wolfpack only being eliminated due to a positive COVID-19 test, perhaps the ACC wasn’t too shabby after all.

And it’s important to remember that Notre Dame’s .714 win percentage in the conference was easily the best.

With significant talent returning in 2022 as well as a rising star coach in Link Jarrett, there is no reason to think 2021 was just the luck of the Irish, but that Fighting Irish baseball is in its strongest spot in a very long time.
