College volleyball: No. 1 Century sweeps past Ridgewater

Sep. 22—WILLMAR — Top-ranked Century College put together a sweep of the Ridgewater Warriors volleyball team on Friday.

The Wood Ducks beat Ridgewater 25-16, 25-23 and 25-19 in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference matchup. Century is No. 1 in the NJCAA Division III rankings.

"We are insanely proud of this team and the grit they put into not only this match tonight but in their dedication to come off last week's loss stronger and more connected," Warriors head coach Amanda Bohlsen said. "We are excited to see this team competing at this caliber while still having half of our season left to play."

Ridgewater had a diverse attack, where six players had at least a pair of kills, led by Jordan Thein's six-kill effort. Thein also led the Warriors with four ace serves.

Defensively, the Warriors had seven players with at least five digs. Gabby Randt had a team-high of 12.

"We knew the Wood Ducks would make us work hard for each point the entirety of the match, so we had the team really focus on their mental game in practice leading into tonight's game," Bohlsen said. "Their minds stayed strong as they worked to make adjustments mid-game that proved to be very successful in throwing off Century's heavy offense at key points in each set."

The Wood Ducks are now 7-0 in the MCAC and 18-1 overall. The Warriors are 0-4 in conference play and 5-10 overall.

Ridgewater plays host to Western Technical College at noon Saturday at Willmar.
