College roundup: Grady sparks Clarkson to men's soccer victory

Sep. 27—SARATOGA SPRINGS — Scoring on two of its first three shots in the game, with Nolan Grady tallying both goals, the Clarkson University men's soccer team built an early lead and never looked back in to record a 3-1 road victory over Skidmore College in a Liberty League game Wednesday night.

Grady scored in the 11th and 18th minutes to spark the Golden Knights, who improve to 6-1, including 2-0 in league play.

Eric McKean contributed a goal in the 75th minute for Clarkson and goalkeeper Josh Morelli only had to make one save in the win.

Max Heberlein scored in the 61st minute to pace the Thoroughbreds (1-5-2, 0-2).

SUNY CORTLAND 6, SUNY POTSDAM 1

Jack Coleman scored a pair of goals and Mateo Marra recorded three assists as the No. 20-ranked Red Dragons (8-1-1, 2-0) topped the Bears in a SUNYAC game in Cortland.

Zach Cunningham tallied a goal for SUNY Potsdam (3-4-1, 0-3).

SUNY POLY 2, SUNY CANTON 0

Abus Mohamed Ali scored a goal and assisted on another as the Wildcats (4-4-0, 2-0-0) blanked the Kangaroos (2-6-1, 0-2-1C) in an NAC game in Canton.

Goalie Owen finished with eight saves for SUNY Canton.

—In Region III play, Genesee Community College blanked Jefferson Community College, 2-0.

The Cannoneers (6-2) handed the Wildcats (7-1) their first loss in a Region III game played in Watertown. Genesee is ranked No. 1 in NJCAA Division III.

SUNY POLY 4, SUNY CANTON 0

Hannah Shipley scored three goals to pace the Wildcats past the Kangaroos in an NAC game in Canton.

Freshman and Copenhagen graduate Aubree Smykla assisted on a goal to record her first point at the collegiate level for SUNY Poly (2-5-1, 1-1).

Goalie Skylar Williams finished with 12 saves for SUNY Canton (0-7-1, 0-3).

Goalie Kristen Spendal made four saves to record the shutout as the Red Dragons (6-2-1, 2-0) defeated the Bears (2-4-2, 0-2-2) in a SUNYAC game in Potsdam.
