College report: Rockwall-ex Bartoszek named as finalist for NCAA DIII player of year

Mar. 15—Will Bartoszek, a 6-4 senior from Rockwall, has been named as a finalist for the Jostens Trophy awarded to the top men's basketball player in NCAA Division III.

Bartoszek, who finished his college career at Hardin-Simmons, was also named the American Southwest Conference men's basketball player of the year. He made the National Association of Basketball Coaches' all-district team and was named to the first team of the all-district team by D3hoops.com

Bartoszek ranked second in the conference in scoring at 21.6 points per game, ranked among the top rebounders at 7.6 per game and also produced 73 assists and 46 steals.

He led Hardin-Simmons to a 19-7 season record. — Samuell Williamson, a 6-8 graduate student from Rockwall, was averaging 8.7 points and a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game for the 20-11 Southern Methodist University Mustangs heading into the American Athletic Conference tournament in Fort Worth.

Williams was shooting .450 from the field and also recorded 49 assists, 36 steals and 19 blocked shots. — Chandler Dickinson, a 6-5 sophomore from Rockwall-Heath, averaged 5.5 points and 2.3 points this basketball season for the 23-9 Southeastern Oklahoma State University basketball team.

Dickinson, who shot .711 from the free throw line, also recorded 40 assists, 10 steals and two blocked shots.

He's also recorded 38 assists and 10 steals.

The Savage Storm reached the semifinals of the Great American Southwest Conference Tournament before falling 86-72 to Southern Nazarene. — Logyn McNeil, a 6-3 sophomore from Heath, averaged 2.3 points and 2.3 rebounds this basketball season for the University of Houston women's basketball team.

McNeil shot .490 from the field. She also recorded seven assists, 15 steals and 10 blocked shots.

The Cougars lost 74-60 to Texas Tech in the Big 12 tournament to finish with a 14-16 season record. — Sherman Brashear, a 6-8 junior from Rockwall, averaged 6.8 points and 2.3 rebounds this season for the 6-25 Rio Grande Valley men's basketball team.

He also recorded 15 assists, 21 steals and seven blocked shots. — Hunter Holt, a sophomore outfielder from Rockwall, has appeared in nine games for Angelo State during the 2024 baseball season. He's batting .333 and has scored six runs and driven in six runs.

The Rams are 17-8 heading into a four-game series this weekend at St. Mary's in San Antonio. — Tristin Court, a senior third baseman from Rockwall-Heath, is leading Northwestern State University's softball team with a .347 batting average.

Court has pounded 10 doubles, one triple and two home runs. She's scored 13 runs and driven in 15 runs. She's also stolen two bases.

She also has a .938 fielding percentage with 24 putouts and 52 assists.

The 11-15 Lady Demons are off to a 0-3 start in Southland Conference play.
