College football recruiting: Army offers Poochie Snyder; Tennessee offers Dante McClellan

CANTON — Less than a week after leading the Canton South football team to a win over St. Clairsville, senior quarterback Poochie Snyder heard from a college program that has his attention. He announced on social media Tuesday he received an offer from Army.

Army is Snyder's third Division I offer, but first FBS offer. According to him, the service academy has been on Snyder's radar recently.

"Army had reached out earlier this month and has shown a lot of support and extended the offer," Snyder told the Repository. "I sent them over my game film from Friday, which I thought I played pretty well. I’m excited to go visit soon and check everything out."

Snyder led the Wildcats with 195 passing yards and three passing touchdowns. He added 180 rushing yards and two more TDs on the ground. The Wildcats beat St. Clairsville 42-40 last Friday.

Snyder verbally committed to Sacred Heart earlier in the summer. Yet, after landing his first FBS offer, he could be open to more options later down the road, especially if they come from the other service academies, Navy and Air Force. He plans on visiting West Point sometime in October.

"I hope those other schools do follow suit," Snyder said. "I haven’t thought about that until they had offered, to be honest. I’m excited to go visit and learn about the school so I could possibly play there."

Canton South plays Dover at home Friday night in Week 2.

McKinley star Dante McClellan offered by Tennessee

McKinley junior linebacker Dante McClellan has been on Tennessee's radar for quite a while. After talking with the defensive coaches on the phone Tuesday, McClellan confirmed on social media that the Volunteers officially offered him.

"They've been eyeing me down, a couple of coaches followed me, then texted me a little bit and yesterday they called me and offered me," McClellan told the Repository.

McClellan now has 14 total FBS offers, two from the SEC. His first SEC offer was from Kentucky. Other notable offers include USC, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Purdue and Minnesota.

McClellan, who is being recruited to play linebacker, led the Bulldogs with seven tackles in their Week 1 win against Harding. He also added five catches for 93 yards as a wide receiver.

The Bulldogs host Avon on Friday night.
