College basketball: Ridgewater can't overcome its deficit

Dec. 10—ELY — A 20-point halftime deficit proved to be too sizable in the Ridgewater men's basketball team's loss to Minnesota North College-Vermilion on Saturday.

The Warriors, who trailed Vermilion 51-31 into the half, lost their fifth game of the season in their 90-67 loss against the Ironhawks.

Ridgewater falls to 5-5 overall and Vermilion improves to 4-7. The Warriors have yet to play a Minnesota College Athletic Conference-South game while the Ironhawks are 1-0 in the MCAC-North.

Quyavant Douglas paced Vermilion. He scored 25 points on 9 of 20 field goals, including five three-pointers. The freshman guard also had 10 rebounds, six assists and a steal.

Vermilion also had four more scorers in the double figures: Darius Mulbah (17), Elijah Wade (15), Jeremy Leonard 13 and JaBryan Smith 10.

Ridgewater's Que Long and Marwan Abdi combined for 36 points.

Long, a sophomore guard from Enid, Oklahoma, scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Abdi, a sophomore forward from St. Peter, had 16 points and eight rebounds.

The Warriors next compete against Northland Community and Technical College at a to be determined time Friday, Dec. 29, at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
