Coldwater gymnastics falls to Saline on Senior Night
COLDWATER — The Coldwater Cardinal varsity gymnastics team hosted Senior Night on Wednesday, welcoming Saline to town for a night of varsity action.
As the only senior on a young team, star Charlotte Calhoun was honored for her efforts as a Cardinal over the years.
In the competition, it was Saline taking the win, defeating Coldwater by the score of 131.75-100.75.
Coldwater was led on the night by Calhoun who placed in all five events on the evening.
Calhoun took three wins and two third place finishes to lead the Cardinals on the night. Calhoun secured a win on the uneven bars with a personal best score of 9.625 while also taking a win on the floor exercise with a score of 9.425.
The senior also found her way onto the podium on the vault, taking third place with a score of 8.6 points. Calhoun’s Coldwater teammate Kristian Thornton achieved a bit of a milestone in the event, notching a regional qualifying score on the apparatus with a score of 7.95.
Calhoun also placed third on the balance beam, notching a score of 8.575 points. With her two wins and her two third-place finishes, Calhoun finished in first place in the all-around, winning with a score of 36.225.
Coldwater gymnastics will be back in action Saturday as they will host their annual Stick It For a Cure benefit invitational. The event is held annually and raises funds that go towards local cancer centers with items including a bake sale and a silent auction. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
