Coin toss could send Packers to Milton

Nov. 14—MOULTRIE — If Colquitt County can get by Westlake on Friday night, the Packers are likely to have to travel to play No. 10-ranked Milton High in a Class 7A quarterfinal meeting on November 24.

Because of GHSA's universal coin toss on Monday, teams placed higher on the GHSA playoff bracket will be at home if same-seeded opponents square off in next week's quarterfinals.

If Region 6-7A champion Milton gets by Collins Hill, the No. 3 team from Region 8, on Friday, it would be the home team if it is matched up with Region 1 champion Colquitt County in their quarterfinal game.

Milton, in Fulton County, north of Atlanta, is about 230 miles from Moultrie.

However, the Packers could play for a third-straight week in The Hawg Pen if they can beat Westlake and Collins Hill can upset Milton.

Collins Hill opened the playoffs with a 45-14 victory over North Cobb. Milton shut out Duluth 53-0.

That same coin toss also could cause No. 2 Walton to have to travel to play No. 5 Carrollton in another Class 7A quarterfinal.

The GHSA will conduct another coin toss next week to determine home field for same-seeded teams in the Dec. 1 semifinals.

The championship games will be played Dec. 11-13 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Oh, and there are some Packers who remember the last time Colquitt County and Milton met and would like a chance at some revenge.

The Eagles beat the undefeated Packers 14-13 to win the Class 7A state championship in 2018.
